Her
Highness Maharani Gayatri Devi was the queen of Jaipur, Rajasthan. She died at
the age of 90 in the year 2009 but she is still alive in the hearts of millions
of her admirers. Maharani Gayatri Devi was a Lok Sabha member from 1967 until
1971. She gradually moved out of politics but continued her social gestures in
the way of adopting schools and villages and funding various NGO’s.
Jaipur, the
pink city of India that time was amongst the very few planned cities of the
country. It is one of those cities where you can never get lost because all
roads intersect at 90 degrees. It continues to be one of the most favorite
tourist destinations for people from across the globe.
Having done
so much for the people of Jaipur, one thing I would have done differently than
Maharani Sahiba was that I would have developed Jaipur as an organized and
structured city just the way Chandigarh and Dubai are today. Being in politics
and having the authority to lead the city along with ancestor’s legacy of being
gifted with a well planned city, it was just everything one would need to
uplift Jaipur to its true potential. If she would have done this, she would
have left her foot prints for generations to remember her with as much pride and
gratitude as we remember her today for all her contribution.
